I’ve been waiting for months for the opportunity to re-visit the historic Tate House, a.k.a. The Pink Palace, in Tate, Georgia. After I received an invitation back in May for a private tour from owner Marsha Mann, all of the stars were finally aligned in my favor, as it were, and I was able to make the one hour trip to The Tate House with my trusty little camera in hand (after a lengthy stay in the shop). : (

I purposely waited a few weeks after getting my camera out of the shop to make the journey to the Pink Palace again because I thought a visit while it was decorated for the Christmas season would be especially memorable…and I was right.

Without further ado…I invite you to Christmas at The Pink Palace!

Marsha greeted me, my wife and son at the door and after a brief introduction, she led us through each room and gave us some insight regarding them such as what progress she has made restoring them and any historical information that she was aware of. The home is a work in progress and she has plans for a full restoration.

Marsha had done a fantastic job of decorating for Christmas. There were seven beautifully decorated trees scattered throughout the mansion and quite a few Christmas character figurines, for lack of a better term.

This post will showcase the portions of the Tate House that were decorated for Christmas but I will be posting a non-Christmas article about the remainder of the interior in the very near future. Keep in mind as you view the photos that this mansion was built by Colonel Sam Tate, specifically to showcase the many uses of various types of marble for home construction. After all, he was THE marble magnate of his time.

Pub Area and New Grand Ball Room

The pub has been here for awhile but the grand ball room is brand new. It is large, to say the least, with plenty of room for a couple hundred guests for a company function, reunion or wedding. The cool thing about the photo with the tree on the left and the pub in the background is that you can see the stone facade of the original garage of the Tate House.

Other Christmas sites spotted throughout the Tate House mansion

another_toy_Santa.JPGTate_House_original_brick_bread_oven.JPGI had a great time taking photos of the interior and I have Marsha to thank for it. She was a gracious host and took a lot of time out of her schedule to give us the tour. Thanks again Marsha. I’ll see you again soon when you finish restoring the Colonel’s room.

I started as a home-stalker… visiting brand new homes under construction in the neighborhoods near my house. That inspired me to write about home building and home renovation projects — chronicling homes during different phases of construction from a consumer's point-of-view. Basically, the tips you'll find in my articles are a collection of checklists for what I think should (and should not) go into building or remodeling a quality home.
