luxury-homes-for-sale-photo-by-TheTruthAbout-on-Flickr.jpg What are the 10 most expensive luxury homes for sale on the worldwide market?

I was curious because the housing market stinks to high heaven right now and there have got to be some outstanding deals to be had. People still have money but their financial portfolios aren’t as fat as they used to be.

Purse strings are tight and consumers aren’t necessarily spending like they normally would in a vibrant, healthy economy. The (bursting) housing bubble and the ensuing economic meltdown saw to that.

So… if you had $150 million dollars (or more), would you buy an outrageously extravagant home, bask in its glory for a few years and then sell it off for a huge gain in about 5 to 7 years from now? I would… without a doubt!

There are a few real estate professionals and (wealthy beyond belief) homeowners hoping that the answer to that same question is a resounding “yes”.

Real estate pros in this market only need to sell a couple of homes a year in order to keep a little petrol in their yacht.

If you have more money than you know what to do with, take a good look at the real estate available in today’s depressed market and make a wise investment.

Yes… I said “an investment”. It’s practically a no-brainer.

Enough of my little rant. Let’s look at some amazing houses that are on the market.

Here is a list of the most expensive luxury homes for sale on the worldwide market today:

#1: The Manor
Los Angeles, California
Asking Price: $150M
This 56,500 sq. ft. home was once owned by Bing Crosby and most recently owned by Candy and Aaron Spelling on 4.7 acres in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles. A textual description would not do it justice so watch the video and then come back here to read about the remaining top 9 homes.

#2: Fleur De Lys
Beverly Hills, California
Asking Price: $125M
A 45,000 sq. ft. estate is modeled after Louis XIV’s palace at Versailles. Need I say more? Ok… I will. The library is beyond compare… and that’s just one tiny, exquisite corner of this masterpiece.

#3: Updown Court
Windlesham, Surrey, UK
Asking Price: $117M
“The most important private residence to be built in England since the 19th Century”. This 103-room home on 58 acres on prime real estate will set you apart from the masses. Then again, if you can afford this home you’ve probably already made your mark in society. If I win the lottery, this is on my list. But for now, I’ll “settle” for a quaint English cottage in the country.

#4: Albemarle House
Charlottesville, Virginia
Asking Price: $100M
This stunning home on 300 acres near Monticello and Ash Lawn-Highland was designed by David Easton. Life is grand at the Albemarle House. It… is… stunning!

#5: Tranquility
Lake Tahoe, Nevada
Asking Price: $100M
Can you say “tax-free”? Yes… this home is located on the tax-free side of Lake Tahoe in Nevada. This 20,000 sq. ft. home on 210 acres was built by Joel Horowitz, co-founder of Tommy Hilfiger. Do you fancy wine? This home has a separate 3,500 bottle wine cellar to indulge your purchases on your visits to the vineyards of Napa Valley, Italy and France. Home is where the heart (and wine cellar) is.

#6: Villa La Palladiana
Cap d’Ail, France
Asking Price: $76M
Century-old olive trees and a terraced landscape overlooking the sea and Cap Ferrat should convince any busy executive, or heir, to live life as it should be. This property will likely change your outlook on life.

#7: A neo-Italian Renaissance mansion
New York, NY
Asking Price: $75M
This exquisite Charles Pierrepont H. Gilbert – designed 21,000 sq. ft. home was built in 1922. It’s 45 ft. wide and has a hand-carved limestone facade. Opulence is the key word here. Oh yeah… location, location, location comes into play, too.

#8: Hummingbird Nest Ranch
Simi Valley, California
Asking Price: $75M
Talk about a view! This incredible 12,500 sq. ft. home / equestrian ranch can be yours. “The best kept secret In Los Angeles.” Simply incredible views and facility! Hard to believe that somebody calls this home.

#9: Cielo de Bon Aire
Mallorca, Spain
Asking Price: $74M
This home has everything you could possibly ask for! This 26,000 sq. ft. home located between the bays of Alcúdia and Pollensa is… is… well… no words can describe it. I’d take it over an L.A. home any day of the week. Click on the link above and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

#10 A prestigious Bel Air home
Bel Air, California
This 48,000 sq. ft. home on 2.2 acres is located on the most prestigious street in Bel Air. It will not leave you wanting. The property is anchored by a 1,000 ft. long, 36-foot high, hand-chiseled Jerusalem stonewall? That’s a good start.

There you have the top 10 most expensive luxury homes that are on the market at the time of this being published. It’s time to make a move. Get out your checkbook.

I started as a home-stalker… visiting brand new homes under construction in the neighborhoods near my house. That inspired me to write about home building and home renovation projects — chronicling homes during different phases of construction from a consumer's point-of-view. Basically, the tips you'll find in my articles are a collection of checklists for what I think should (and should not) go into building or remodeling a quality home.
