Halloween Yard Decoration Ideas
Halloween yard decorations and tree faces would be a ghoulish addition to your Halloween plans this year. Tombstones, ghosts and grim reapers are the reason for the season and if you are one of those that plots and plans year-round to figure out the best way to scare the wits out of unsuspecting trick-or-treaters, then this post is for you.

If your neighborhood is anything like ours, then you know that there are always one or two homes that go all out. They have scary sound effects like harrowing screams, creeky doors, chains rattling and werewolves howling. That sets the stage for what's to come when you step foot on their property. Beware! Your kid firmly grabs your hand as you urge them onward. They might seem a bit anxious at the prospect of what tricks they have to go through to get to the front door for the treat. Scares the wits out of 'em sometimes but, as parents, you secretly want to see what's in store so you drag them up to the door. Shame on you!! (hee hee)

Halloween Lawn Decoration and Tree Face Ideas
Try this...
If you have a rocking chair front porch, replace the porch light with a black light, dress up in a grim reapers outfit and have a seat. Be absolutely still while you wait for unsuspecting kiddies to approach while they ponder 'Is it real or not??' After they've decided that it can't be real, change their minds. Be careful with the little ones, though. You don't want to be held responsible for traumitizing them beyond repair. This is especially fun to catch the adults off guard!

That's hilarious, Melissa. Sounds like a lot of good, clean fun. Element of surprise gets 'em every time.
We did the element of surprise well once with this simple idea. First decorate a large box anyway scary way you want. On it, or around it should be a couple of signs like "UGGHHH Look at your own risk"...
There will be a hole cut in the front part large enough for a face to look completely into with a curtain on the outside for them to pull back.
What is the surprise inside the box? Someone standing there. Once the person focuses and realize its nothing, the person inside the box dips his fingers in a bowl of water and flicks them at the person looking in, and whispers "don't tell".
Watching someone looking in you see them jump back startled, and this makes you curious, but hesitant about looking in yourself.

What you do is tie a rock to the end of a long cord then throw it up and try to get it around the tree branch(might take a few times). After you have the string over the tree, then attach a dummy to the other end of the sting, and pull the side of the string without the dummy on it all the way to your front porch then tie the string to your railing, or something, make sure there is some extra string in between the dummy's head,(that should now be hanging from the tree branch) is at least one foot away from the tree branch. After everything is all tied up, then when kids walk by pull the string, so that the dummy's head hits the branch, then when the kids are right in front of it let go of the string! it should scare them!

I'm not going to be specific here but your key to scaring the pants off of everyone is the element of surprise while at the same time tapping into people's fears.
Combine the two and you will have a party to be remembered for some time to come. One example that comes to my mind is the old America's Funniest Home Videos standby of having a large Halloween surprise cake sitting on a table under a lid. When most of your guests are ready to eat, just lift the lid and lo and behold, your friends head is for dessert via the hole cut in the (cheap/disposable) table. It would take some work but would be effective. Don't forget to drape a tablecloth voer the table to hide the rest of your friend's body.
Scary-looking people and/or body parts appearing where they shouldn't seems to freak people out pretty good.
